Elmar Kriegler´s Homepage


Dr. Elmar Kriegler is vice chair of the research domain Sustainable Solutions at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. His research focuses on the integrated assessment of climate change, in particular on technological and climate risks of policies to mitigate climate change.

Elmar Kriegler is a lead author for the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report for the chapter assessing transformation pathways of the energy and land-use system, and a scientific steering committee member of the Integrated Assessment Modeling Consortium (IAMC).

Since 2009, Elmar Kriegler coordinates the research domain Sustainable Solutions at PIK. In 2006, He was awarded a Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship by the EU for a two year research visit at the Department of Engineering and Public Policy, at Carnegie Mellon University.

Elmar Kriegler received a diploma (MS equivalent) degree in physics from the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg, Germany, in 1998, and a PhD degree in physics from the University of Potsdam, Germany, in 2005.
