Greentech Honorary Award for Johan Rockström

06/21/2023 - Johan Rockström, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research PIK, has been awarded the "Special Achievement Award" by the Greentech Festival. The Earth system scientist received the honour for his commitment and leadership in his field.

PIK Director Johan Rockström was presented with the special award by Jennifer Lee Morgan, State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office and Special Representative for International Climate Action.

With more than 25 years of experience, Rockström is a leading expert in the management of global water resources and sustainability, the jury said.  Rockström's research has influenced policy decisions, and he plays an important role in various advisory boards and organizations dealing with nature and environmental issues, the statement added.

Rockström received the honorary award during the 16th Green Awards, which marked the start of the Greentech Festival 2023 on the grounds of the former Tegel Airport. Further prizes were awarded in the categories Youngster, Innovation and Start-up. The decision was made by a 55-member jury.

The Greentech Festival is one of the largest sustainability festivals in Europe and has been held annually since 2019. The aim is to make green and sustainable developments tangible and experienceable.
