Impact details: land cover conversion

impact chain for hydrological drought (click any node to view details):
The term of "land cover" describes the type of the earth's surface and refers to the physical and biological cover of the surface of land including water, vegetation, bare soil and artificial structures. It corresponds in some regards to the notion of ecosystems and is linked to climate in complex ways. Whereas the direct modification of the earth's surface is mostly a consequence of human action (biodegrading activities, building activities), there are also indirect human-induced changes of land cover (reallocation, degradation, desertification). Hence, land-cover conversion is the sum of short- and long-term effects of global change and, consequently, climate change as well.
