Knowledge & Technology Transfer

Since its foundation, scientific policy advice and communicating scientific insights to society have been a central task and at the same time an important goal of PIK. For a number of years now, various transfer activities have contributed to increasingly making research results available to the business sector. As a result, PIK makes an important contribution to innovation and sustainable development.

Knowledge and technology transfer at PIK is carried out, on the one hand, in numerous projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the EU or Climate-KIC, whose German subsidiary was co-founded by PIK. On the other hand, PIK conducts application-oriented research, assessments and consulting directly on behalf of companies.

Well-known partners or clients are, among others, Munich Re, the German Insurance Association, Deutsche Bahn AG, Deutsche Telekom Technik GmbH or the Swiss FinTech start-up Carbon Delta.

The Knowledge and technology transfer unit sees itself as a link between PIK scientists and the economy. On the one hand, it supports employees in the application for and implementation of transfer projects or the realization of a spin-off project. On the other hand, it is the central point of contact for requests from business and industry for PIK know-how, data or services. It helps to find the right partner at PIK and coordinates further steps.
