MOSES - Modellierung und Simulation Ökologischer Systeme - Eine Sprachbeschreibung mit Anwendungsbeispielen

This report presents a new language calculus for modelling and simulation of ecological systems. Prerequisite for describing temporal and spatial dynamics of rather complex, possibly integrated systems is the capability of composing model hierarchies out of autonomous generic partial models residing in a model bank.

The semantics consists mainly of processes to be interpreted as typical ecological phenomena by assigning them to distinct process types. The processes are considered as specific terms of recurrence or difference equations and can be ordered by general rules procedurally incorporated into the algorithm representing an ecosystem prototype.

Complexity is handled also by generic and vector objects with specific structure and behaviour (age classes, habitats) and by families of model versions.

Simulation experiments/scenarios flexibly are defined as model data structures with object-specific data derived directly from the model structure.
