The AR5-Scenario-Explorer allows you to explore the long-term scenarios reviewed in the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
It allows you to explore the different variables, filter to see only scenarios from one Integrated Assessment Model (IAM), view different model runs for a scenario and limit by range of a variable, e.g. only showing scenarios that do not exceed a certain temperature.
From the over 1000 scenarios only the 524 with climate projections until 2100 have been selected for this explorer. Scenarios with 10-year time steps have been linearly interpolated to make them comparable with scenarios with 5-year time steps. Currently only the Region “World” is explorable. Two derived variables have been added to the explorer: cumulative CO₂ (2011-2100) and cumulative sequestration through Carbon Capture and Storage.
Kyoto greenhouse gas emissions have been calculated from the emissions as supplied in the scenario data using 100-year global warming potentials (GWPs) from the IPCC Second Assessment Report (SAR).
Temperatures have been calculated using the reduced complexity climate model MAGICC6.
This page is using version 1.0.2 from June 29th 2015 of the AR5 Scenario Database.
When using the IPCC AR5 Scenario Database in research projects it is usually cited with a variation of the following:
"We use the IPCC AR5 Scenario Database (hosted at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and available at https://secure.iiasa.ac.at/web-apps/ene/AR5DB) [...]"
Please note the
detailed information on scenario sources and usage terms
if you are considering using the data.
