25 years of PIK - Written Congratulations

Acknowledging a quarter century of research at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, we asked our most important partners and companions what 25 years of PIK mean to them:

Christina Figueres,Christina Figueres
Former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 2010-2016

"Congratulations to PIK on its 25 year anniversary and for the extraordinarily important work you have done and will continue to do. This is the moment for science, and the time to re-establish the scientific underpinnings for all the decisions of mankind.

PIK has helped us to frame the next three years as an opportunity to turn the tide on global GHG emissions so we can begin living in a better future. We will continue to look to your team to tell us the facts - and the uncertainties – as you uncover them. But the facts don’t always speak for themselves; we need to hear them in stories we can understand so that we non-scientists can grasp the importance of your teaching – and more importantly so we can learn from you. Businesses, investors, policy makers all need to hear more from you, so I wish you a very successful next 25 years helping to accelerate and sharpen all of our understanding on climate impacts so that we may act in the best interests of everyone”.

Karsten Sach,Karsten Sach

Deputy Director General European and International Policy

“I congratulate PIK most warmly on its 25th anniversary. PIK has quickly grown to one of the world’s leading climate research institutes - scientifically sound, interdisciplinary, and politically highly relevant. You have often broken new ground, have remeasured the unknown and have presented it to politics and the public in an understandable and efficacious way. I would like to thank you very much indeed and wish you to keep your conscious, investigative and incorruptible vision and to continue with your excellent support due to your expertise.”

Michael Otto,Michael Otto
Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Otto Group

"25 years of Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research – that’s a quarter century of sound, interdisciplinary science carefully examining global climate change and its ecological, economic and social consequences. I would like to sincerely congratulate all PIK employees on their outstanding work accomplished so far. For the next 25 years I would like to wish you and this prestigious institute lots of substance, political and societal attention and a strong solution-focused orientation in order to tackle one of the greatest challenges of our time. "

Mario Molina,Mario Molina
Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, 1995

“It is with great pleasure that I congratulate the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary.  PIK is an extraordinary institution dedicated to addressing crucial scientific matters concerning societal problems by generating the sort of interdisciplinary insights required for decision making at a global scale.

We are living in a world where science economic and social studies must come together to confront important challenges in fields such as climate change and sustainable development. The Mario Molina Center in Mexico, which I preside, and PIK have worked together over the past years to identify possible synergies regarding matters of mutual interest in order to generate strategies in risk prevention, and building resiliency in urban areas. In 2016 we signed a memorandum of understanding in these areas, and we plan to continue working together in favor of the protection of the environment.

I truly hope PIK will endure its path towards linking vital scientific knowledge for many more years, for the betterment of society.

My sincere congratulations for these 25 years of great creativity.”

Axel Weber,Axel Weber
Chairman of the Board of Directors, UBS Group

"Addressing climate change for each and everyone of us poses one of the biggest challenges of our time. PIK, its leadership and staff, through their continuous and excellent contributions, have played a leading role in Germany and internationally to foster the understanding of the causes and potential consequences of climate change. Congratulations for having reached this important milestone!"
