About

Gerrit Hansen holds a diploma in environmental engineering from the Technical University Berlin, a Master of Science in global change management from the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (HNEE), and a doctorate from the Wageningen University in the Netherlands. She joined PIK in 2010, as scientist at the IPCC WG3 technical support unit, with a focus on the Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation. From August 2011 to November 2014 she has been acting as the chapter scientist for the IPCC WG2 fifth assessment report Chapter 18 "Detection and Attribution of Observed Climate Change Impacts", in support of the coordinating lead author Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Cramer, within the Ecostab group in Research Domain 1, and continues her work with the Ecostab group as a guest scientist.

Her main research interest is the interaction of climate and other global change drivers, with a view to sustainable development and resilient transformation pathways. Recently, she has focused on the detection of climate change impacts in observations, and the challenges of attributing impacts to particular drivers in complex multi-driver systems.
