ANNOUNCEMENT!! Looking for 2 prospective PhD students

Two PhD positions available within an independent research group at University of Tübingen

Starting from January 2020, I will be leading an independent research group at the University of Tübingen within the "Cluster of Excellence: Machine Learning: New Perspectives for Science." The group will initially consist of two PhD students who will use machine learning based approaches to develop a better understanding on spatio-temporally extended climatic phenomena in the tropics. In particular, the PhD projects will involve analyzing globally distributed reanalysis climate data and using principled machine learning techniques (clustering, complex networks, and neural network architectures) to quantify, classify, and predict large-scale sea surface temperature and tropical rainfall patterns.

The PhD students will be recruited via International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems (IMPRS-IS) Tübingen, of which I am an associated faculty member.
