Profile

Juliana Gärtner works as research analyst to the PIK director for the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU). The council’s next flagship report investigates the influence of digitalization on global environmental and social change.

Before joining PIK, Juliana was a Carlo-Schmid scholar and consultant to the UNDP Small Grants Programme in Ecuador, advising the design of their youth strategy for bio-cultural resilience and supporting the rural earthquake relief effort.

She holds an M.Phil. in 'Nature, Society and Environmental Policy' from Oxford University, where she focused on critical environmental geography and the food sovereignty movement. She also holds a B.A. in Economics and Geography from the University of London (SOAS, KCL). Her studies were funded by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung d. dt. Volkes), the Hans-Rudolf Foundation and St. Edmund Hall.
