Katja Frieler holds a Diploma in Mathematics of the University of Bielefeld and a PhD in "Physics of
the Atmosphere" of the University of Potsdam. As PhD student she worked at the Alfred-Wegener-
Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI, Potsdam) on chemical modeling of polar stratospheric
ozone losses.

Before joining the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) in July 2008 she
was a PostDoc at the Department of Biostatistics and Clinical Epidemiology, Charité, University for
Medicine Berlin. She led the PRIMAP project between 2011 and 2018 and worked on the development of impact functions that allow for probabilistic projections of regional climate changes. Currently, she focuses on changes in the occurrence of extreme events in terms of global mean temperature change.

Katja Frieler is the principal investigator of the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project (ISIMIP), along with leading numerous other scientific projects, and acting as Head of the Research Department "Transformation Pathways" at PIK.

Katja Frieler is IPCC lead author for Chapter 16 on "Key Risks Across Sectors and Regions" in the 6th Assessment Report of Working Group 2. She has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and was named Highly Cited Researcher in 2020.
