Anne Biewald currently acts as Deputy Professor for Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy at the Institute for Agricultural Policy and Market Research, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen. She is co-chair of the transdisciplinary and international research group on Groundwater Management in the Future Earth Framework, assembling the best international expertise to develop solutions to the world’s groundwater problems. Within PIK's research  domain Climate Impacts & Vulnerabilities, she coordinates the FACCE-JPI project  SUSTAg (Assessing options for the SUSTainable intensification of Agriculture for integrated production of food and non-food products at different scales) and is  leading the cross-cutting activity on representative agricultural pathways (RAPs) in the knowledge hub FACCE-MACSUR.

She has won in 2014 the Young Researcher's Prize of the State of Brandenburg, in the category social science, for her research on virtual water trade. In 2013 Anne Biewald held a scholarship for a research visit at MTT Agrifood Finland.

Her research interests lie in the international trade of agricultural goods, water management issues, virtual water, sustainable intensification, development economics, and economics of adaptation. She has studied landscape ecology and holds a PhD in economics.
