Ackerdemia e.V.

The non-profit association, founded by the former PIK-employee Dr. Christoph Schmitz in 2014, develops and realises innovative social and impact-oriented concepts in order to sustainably strengthen awareness about the responsible use of nature and the appreciation of food in society. For example, the association has launched the multi-award-winning education programme "GemüseAckerdemie", which addresses schools, day care centres and other educational institutions in the children and youth sector.


Climate Media Factory UG

CMF Climate Media Factory UG (haftungsbeschränkt) was founded in 2011 and has its roots in a joint BMBF-funded project of PIK and the Film University Babelsberg "Konrad Wolf". Aiming at improving the communication of the results of climate impact research and the complex topics of climate change to the broader public, the company develops scientifically sound and entertaining audiovisual media.The portfolio includes animated movies, documentations and apps, as well as e-learning tools.

Climate & Environment Consulting Potsdam GmbH

CEC Potsdam GmbH was founded in 2005 as the first spin-off from PIK. Since then it offers various services in the field of climate and impacts of climate change, such as project work, scientific advice, impact analysis and lectures. Clients are state bodies and scientific institutions as well as companies in the economic sectors affected by climate change.


elena international GmbH

elena international GmbH was founded in 2019 by Dr. Sabine Auer and Christina Horn. Based on state‐of‐the‐art analysis methods and modelling approaches – a result of long‐term research at PIK – the start‐up has developed an innovative software solution which allows the creation of grid-stable scenarios for the cost‐efficient expansion of renewable energy sources up to 100%. Thereby, the company offers its customers tailor-made solutions for various stages of power system planning: from investment planning to improving operational strategies and grid stability.


GreenAdapt Gesellschaft für Klimaanpassung mbH

Founded in 2017 by alumni of the Humboldt University of Berlin and PIK, the start-up develops concepts for climate-resilient communities (municipalities, cities or districts) of the future. To this end, the company first identifies the potential impacts of climate change in more than a dozen different sectors; this step is performed using an innovative software tool. Subsequently, appropriate adaptation measures are proposed on the basis of the results and summarized in a corresponding climate adaptation strategy. GreenAdapt also offers various climate adaptation services for companies.

greenjobs GmbH was founded in 2011 by a former employee of PIK. The company operates the online job market greenjobs.de – the first point of contact in German-speaking countries for those who want to work in green industries. greenjobs.de covers the growing future markets of renewable energies and environmental technology as well as environmental research, environmental planning, environmental education and environmental management.
