ISIMIP2b is the latest phase of the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project (, which brings together over 100 climate-impact modelling groups from across the world to generate a comprehensive and robust picture of the impacts of politically-relevant climate-change scenarios. ISIMIP is coordinated by a PIK-based management group and cross-sectoral science team, led by Dr Katja Frieler, and sector-specific coordinators based at other research institutes. For each simulation round, a cross-sectoral simulation protocol describes scenarios designed to address a set of chosen focus topics. The focus topic for ISIMIP2b is the quantification of the impacts of low-emissions climate-change scenarios, including, but not limited to scenarios leading to 1.5°C global warming, which will be the focus of an IPCC Special Report to be published in 2018. Based on the ISIMIP2b and existing ISIMIP simulation data, simplified impact models, emulators, will be developed, which allow for a statistically-robust exploration of the most relevant scenarios due to significantly-reduced computational expense. With the help of the impacts emulators, assessments of the impacts associated with the latest Business-As-Usual emissions pathways, or INDC-based pathways can be rapidly produced. A major international conference, Impacts World 2017, will be organized within the scope of ISIMIP2b, following on from the inaugural event in 2013. This conference will bring together impacts researchers, economists and relevant stakeholders to discuss the latest progress in aggregating climate-change impacts across affected sectors.
