OASIS

Open Access Catastrophe Model (OASIS) – Contribution of Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research

OASIS proposes the development of a unique open source catastrophe model that will transform the market by providing more transparency and access to information for insurance companies as well as for other stakeholders. The additional contribution of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), jointly carried out with the OASIS partners, will be twofold: • To the Hazard module: Information on/ modeling of flood related hazards in Central and Eastern Europe covering a cross-section from the North Sea to the Black Sea including the basins of the Rhine, the Elbe, the Weser, the Ems and the Danube (see Figure 1). Considered are current climate conditions as well as a set of climate scenario projections. • To the Vulnerability and Financial module: Exploring the generation of damage functions for large scale river basins and validating the results using detailed information available for Germany.
