Climate change impacts on conflict

Starting with inputs from experts on Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Syria, experts will discuss how climatic effects, such as droughts and shifting rainfall patterns, affect local conflict dynamics. Based on these insights, the nexus of climate change and peacebuilding will be explored. The Berghof Foundation and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) want to advance the debate from stating the facts to taking action. Ottmar Edenhofer, Director of PIK, will give the opening remarks to this event. PIK's Stefanie Wesch will contribute to the input on Afghanistan. And Kira Vinke, Co-chair Advisory Council for Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding and project lead at PIK, will take part in the closing panel discussion.
