Climate risks and policies

Online event, from Mar 22, 2021 02:45 PM to Mar 23, 2021 06:30 PM
Climate change is a risk multiplier: It increases risks, fragility, inequalities and the vulnerability of economies. Responding to the challenges of climate change requires a comprehensive approach to transition towards resilient low-carbon economies. Achieving this transition requires an understanding of the socio-economic and socio-political factors that enable and constrain a “just transition“. The PEGNet Conference 2021 will provide a platform for leading development scholars, practitioners and policy-makers to reflect on relevant topics in the field of development economics. Ottmar Edenhofer, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), will give a key note on the conference's first day and Sophie von Loeben, also a scientist at PIK, will take part in a session on "Policies for strengthening resilience and managing risk" on its second day.

Performance Lecture by Johan Rockström: About our time on earth

Dramaten, Nybroplan, 111 47 Stockholm, from Nov 21, 2020 12:00 AM to Nov 21, 2020 11:59 PM
What will the planet of our children and grandchildren look like? What can we do today to avoid the worst disasters? And is there a light in the tunnel to a sustainable and attractive world? Meet Johan Rockström, professor of global environmental science, in a dramatized lecture on our future on earth. With the help of the actress Sanna Sundqvist from Dramaten, he tells about why the planet is in an acute emergency - and how we must immediately find a new direction so that global warming and the loss of biodiversity do not change the conditions for all life on earth. It will be dark, yet possibly a little hopeful. Johan Rockström has been named the most environmentally powerful person in Sweden twice, is a member of several scientific academies, has been head of the Stockholm Environment Institute and Stockholm Resilience Center and is now head of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. Rockström has written several books and been both summer and winter talker in P1. Performance Lectures, where knowledge is conveyed with the theater's tools, is a new way of exploring and communicating science with the help of the form of performing arts. The format is a recurring collaboration between Dramaten & and the Nobel Prize Museum. Previously, robot researcher Danica Kragić Jensfelt has given a Performance Lecture on robots, professor of theoretical physics, Ulf Danielsson, on the universe, psychology researcher Armita Golkar on fear, economics professor Micael Dahlen on happiness and philosophy professor Åsa Wikforss on truth. Due to the coronavirus pandemic the premiere on November 21 has unfortunately been postponed until further notice.
