Climate Security in Central Asia: Disaster Risk Reduction and Adaptation

The Silk Road to Knowledge Conference was organized by the German-Kazazh University from February 23rd – February 25th 2022 within the Green Central Asia initiative. The PIK Team co-organized and co-chaired the panel on Climate Security in Central Asia: Disaster Risk Reduction and Adaptation. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Scheffran, leader of the working group Climate Security (CliSec) which is part of the Excellence Cluster CLICSS at the University of Hamburg, held the keynote speech for this panel. The team also invited Mr. Bakhtiyar Ospanov from the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (Kazakhstan), Dr. Sandugash Ranova from the Institute of Geography and Water Security (Kazakhstan), Mrs. Olga Kalashnikova from the Central-Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (Kyrgyzstan), Mr. Isomiddin Akramov from UNDP (Uzbekistan), as well as Mr. Bakhtibeki Otambekzoda from the National Coordinator for GLOFCA project (Tajikistan).
