22/03/2022 - Diego Rybski, Deputy Head of Research Group 'Urban Transformations' at PIK, has been appointed 'Section Editor' at PLOS One. In this position, he will lead the section 'Urban Studies' and advise a group of academic editors in this research field.
Previously, Dr Rybski had co-edited the PLOS One Collection 'Cities as Complex Systems', which had received an overwhelming number of submitted contributions. In his position as section editor, he will continue to work on special issues and guide academic editors and journal staff in research related to urban studies.
Cities play an important role in the climate change context as they exhibit extreme densities of people and infrastructure. At the same time, the percentage of urban population is increasing; by 2050 an expected number of 7 billion people will live in urban areas (United Nations, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division (2018). This research area will therefore likely gain importance in the near future.
