The conference served as the official launch of the e-learning course "Building resilience to compound and cascading disaster risks" developed by the Japanese Ministry of Environment (MOEJ) and the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies (IGES). The conference engaged experts from around the world in discussions on ways to strengthen disaster management at the local level in order to reduce and prevent compound and cascading disasters.

Christopher Reyer gave a presentation on the preliminary results of the PIK-Lead EU Project CASCADES entitled: "Transboundary climate impacts on Europe: Early insights from CASCADES"
