We are proudly announcing that EPICC has been listed as a “contributing project” to the Global Framework for Climate Services, a global cooperation of governments and various organizations, producers and users of climate information and services, whose goals it is to enhance quality as well quantity of climate data. Being recognized as a “contributing project” means that EPICC meets a subset of special criteria, among them a climate services focus that targets the needs of both decision makers and end users.

Why is it important for EPICC to be part of GFCS?

The aim of the GFCS is to improve quantity, quality and access to different types of climate services, which can be used by various types of stakeholders, from policymakers to vulnerable communities, to keep them informed of trends and changes in climatic conditions. EPICC provides climate data for Peru, India and Tanzania, which are made available in different formats, including maps, risk reports, climate scenarios and forecasts. Such information is essential for planning and implementing action to better adapt to the negative effects of climate change, particularly with relation to weather extremes, water scarcity, health risks or agricultural productivity. The global partnership of UN agencies, governments, organizations and research projects (now including the EPICC project), brought together through GFCS, increases capacities of countries to manage climate change risks by providing state-of-the-art climate information, improving its distribution and availability on the ground.
