Recommendations
- Should be supplied when there is a relationship between the data
set(s) described in the DIF and the scientific project.
- Should not be supplied if there is no significant difference between
project and source of the data as identified elsewhere in the DIF.
- The project list is semicontrolled; i.e. the project names in the
list of valids must be used. If the appropriate project is not in
the valids list, a new project name may be submitted with the DIF
for review.
- Short name and long name should be provided.
- Short name is usually a mnemonic or abbreviated version of the long
name. When submitting a new short name, always check the Project Valids
List to ensure mutual exclusivity among project short names. No two
projects may have the same short name.
- If no short name is available, the long name is written in all
capital letters.
