Definition
Unique identifier of the DIF
Syntax
Entry_ID:
Specifications
- Identifier is determined by the DIF author or GCMD staff
- Required field
- Must be first field in the DIF
- May be used only once
- 1 to 31 alphanumeric characters permitted, including underbar (_),
hyphen (-), period (.) and comma (,)
Recommendations
- May use the data center's given metadata ID
- May use a mnemonic giving indication of content
- May use a generic identifier when a DIF represents more than one data set
- If the data set is broken into different DIFs, Entry_ID may be modified to
be unique; a suffix in addition to the given metadata ID may be used
Examples
- Entry_ID: OAR0005 (Metadata ID)
- Entry_ID: JPL_DAAC_SSMI_WINDS (Mnemonic indicates content)
- Entry_ID: IGBP_DIS_FIRE (DIF represents more than one data set)
- Entry_ID: OAR0171-B (Metadata ID and Suffix)
