Discipline
Definition
Describes the science discipline(s) in which the data are normally used
Syntax
Discipline: [Discipline Valid] > [Subdiscipline Valid] > [Text]
Specifications
- Only one discipline-subdiscipline pair may be specified on a line
- May be repeated as often as necessary
- If a subdiscipline does not apply, discipline may be specified
without a corresponding subdiscipline.
- If specificity greater than subdiscipline is required, up to 80
characters of free text may be optionally appended to the
subdiscipline. Characters include the printable ASCII character set,
except ">".
Recommendations
- Earth science DIFs should be specified with "Earth Science" as
the discipline valid.
- For all other DIFs, all applicable disciplines should be specified.
