Biosketch

Marc Metzger is a scientist at the Plant Production Systems Group of Wageningen University. He currently works on his PhD on the vulnerability of the human-environment system to Global Change.

Marc is involved in the EU fifth framework program ATEAM (Advanced Terrestrial Ecosystem Analysis and Modeling), where he has developed a methodology for translating spatially modeled ecosystem services into maps of vulnerability. In the spring of 2004 his methodology will be applied to ATEAM’s results. A statistical stratification of the European environment forms a key element in the vulnerability assessment. The stratification was developed in cooperation with landscape ecologists from the Wageningen institute Alterra and has generated much interest among different groups of ecologists in several EU projects.
