For our macroeconomic modeling group PIK is offering

a Postdoctoral Position (m/f/d)

in the field of economic modeling of climate change impacts on economic growth

starting in fall 2019.

Reference Number: Postdoc Position-17-2019

The position is funded until 31.10.2021 and is part of the BMBF project “Short- and Long-Term Impacts of Climate Extremes (SLICE)”. Remuneration is in accordance with German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 40 hours.

Key responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will work on a project investigating the effects of climate change impacts, in particular extreme events, on the long-term economic development on the national and household level.
  • He/she will be responsible to develop a household model and connect to empirical data provided in the project to calibrate and apply the model.
  • Furthermore, the candidate will contribute to the efforts of investigating novel concepts for integrating climate change damages into integrated energy-economy-landuse-climate models and to assess distributional effects of climate change impacts.


  • PhD in Economics, Physics, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, System Sciences or a related field
  • expertise in economic growth theory or economic analysis of inequality or empirical work on economic impacts of climate change, respectively
  • training in formal, quantitative methods, excellent analytical skills and interest in theoretical and applied modeling (programming skills in R or GAMS are an advantage)

  • strong communication skills in English (the working language at PIK is English),
  • capacity for teamwork,
  • capacity to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics.

The successful candidates will be working in the group “Macroeconomic modeling of climate change mitigation and impacts”, part of the “Mitigation and sustainable development pathways” section of PIK’s Research Domain III on “Transformation Pathways”.
