For the Research Domain 3 Sustainable Solutions PIK is offering

a PhD position (m/f/d)

in the field of integrated assessment modeling and economic modeling of climate change mitigation, starting as soon as possible, but not later than 01.04.2019.

(Position number: RD3-PhD Position-51-2018)

The position is funded until 31.12.2021. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a part-time position with a weekly working time of 26 hours per week.

Key responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be

  • working in a project on the interaction of structural change and climate change mitigation, on economic impacts of climate change and distributional consequences
  • contributing to the development and empirical foundation of a multi-sectoral growth model to study the interaction of structural change and economic growth with climate change and climate change mitigation policies
  • preparing scenario based climate policy analyses and assessing policy instruments that help to avoid adverse distributional effects

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Economics, Physics, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, System Sciences or a related field
  • Expertise in economic growth theory or economic analysis of inequality or  empirical work on economic impacts of climate change, respectively
  • Training in formal, quantitative methods, excellent analytical skills and interest in theoretical and applied modeling (programming skills in R or GAMS are an advantage)
  • Strong motivation and good organizational skills
  • The ability to work independently and on your own initiative
  • Strong communication skills in English; the working language at PIK is English
  • capacity for teamwork
