How does the tool work ?

Your activities are compared with a 'baseline scenario' - the behaviour that would occur in the absence of your initiative. For example, if you provide locally produced organic food to members, this would be compared with the same quantity of food from a conventional supermarket, and the avoided greenhouse gas emissions would be calculated accordingly. This idea is followed for all the different activities.
Baseline scenario:

Example: Emissions caused from the production of conventional food sold in supermarkets
Your initiative:

Example: Emissions caused from the production of locally grown organic vegetables
Emissons avoided
by your initiative
You can also compare your results with the performance of other community-based initiatives across Europe, which have been assessed within the research under this project (EU-TESS, Towards European Societal Sustainability).
