Short Bio

Matthias Mengel is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. He completed his PhD in 2015 on Antarctic ice dynamics and sea level change. During his AXA Postdoctoral fellowship project he worked on the stability of the Antarctic ice sheet under future warming. He also researches empirical relations between climate warming and the contributors to sea level rise. In new research he investigates climate impacts with particular focus on the impacts of sea level rise. He is part of the ISIMIP team. In 2013, he joined the Polarstern expedition ANT-XXIX/3 to the Antarctic Weddel sea. Thick ice made them stuck. Though he studies the cold regions of the planet, he rather loves the warm ones.
