Research Interests

Earth System Science, i.e. modelling and environmental systems analysis, in particular, climate impact analysis, man-nature interactions, hazard and vulnerability assessments. Specific parts of my work are directed to the integration of the social, economic, and natural sphere in formal concepts. In this context new and smart techniques from various disciplines, i.e. qualitative reasoning, neural networks, viability concepts, fuzzy diagnosis, statistical methods, or expert systems are utilized and further developed. Concerning the results of the of the last UNFCCC climate conference in Copenhagen we are aiming to describe and develop transition pathways for developed and developing countries with regard to limits for development and fairness. Examinations of unbalanced urbanisation processes, the role of structural and institutional features with regard  of efficiency,  and how  cities can be designed  more resilient is  a further focal point of our group.
