EMICs  Earth System Models of
Intermediate Complexity

A spectrum of models of various complexity is used in modelling the natural Earth system. Depending on the nature of questions asked and the pertinent time scales, there are, on the one extreme,  conceptual, more inductive models, and, on the other extreme, three-dimensional comprehensive models operating at the highest spatial and temporal resolution currently feasible. Models of intermediate complexity bridge the gap.
The EMIC network is supported by
GAIM (Global Analysis Integration and Modelling), an
IGBP (International Geosphere-Biosphere Program) task force
and by the participating institutes (see table of EMICs).
