PIKEE
PIK Environmental Education
The project PIKEE (PIK Environmental Education) serves the goal
of the PIK to carry the scientific understanding of a sustainable
lifestyle and economy into society through the collaboration with
school and university. Besides numerous presentations at PIK for
pupils the educational activities of the institute are intensified in a
special project.
PIK has made an agreement with the secondary school Peter
Joseph Lenné-Gesamtschule Potsdam and the Institute for Educational
Science at Potsdam University. From the Lenné school the 11. grade
courses (age 16-17 years) on IT, geography, history and arts are
involved in the joint projects. An educational seminar of Potsdam
University accompanies the projects scientifically.
The museum:
The history and arts courses work together on building a permanent exhibition in a PIK owned building. This museum is aimed especially at young people depicting the work of Reinhard Süring, the former director of the long-term meteorological station, the history of the Telegrafenberg science campus, and meteorology in general.
The educational website:
The geography and IT courses are building an educational website with teaching material focusing on PIK research topics. This site will be included in the PIK web portal as an information platform for pupils.
The climate board game:
With the climate board game 'Keep Cool', developed by PIK scientists, a game workshop will be held at the Lenné school to involve more pupils than those working on the special projects. The game motivates to discuss and reflect on socio-economic issues concerning climate change. The workshop concept has been tested successfully at other schools.
