Pressemitteilung des PIK zur Nationalen GLOWA Konferenz

Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched a pilot program known as GLOWA (Global Change and the Hydrological Cycle) in 2000.  GLOWA is part of the BMBF framework program on research for sustainability with the objectives of developing, testing and applying new integrative, interdisciplinary methods and models in individual GLOWA projects. The methodologies and simulation tools developed will contribute to long term sustainable water management at local and regional (river basins of approximately 100.000 km²) scales taking into account global environmental changes and socio-economic conditions. Within the GLOWA program six river catchments were selected in five projects: Danube, Elbe, Jordan, Impetus (Rivers Drâa and Ouémé) and Volta.

This conference will show results, methods and strategies of the two German projects:

GLOWA-Danube, coordinated by W. Mauser LMU München and
GLOWA-Elbe, coordinated by F. Wechsung PIK Potsdam

Organization comittee:

Wolfram Mauser and Sara Stöber (LMU München)
Frank Wechsung and Peggy Gräfe (PIK Potsdam)
