CHIEF investigates possible impacts of global change on forests and forestry in Europe on three different scales. On a European scale, the investigation focuses on regional changes in ecological factors and the estimation of the potential development of natural and managed forests. On the national scale, the sensitivity of existing forests and the forestry sector in Germany to climate change is of central importance. On a regional scale, an integrated analysis and evaluation of ecological and socio-economic consequences of climate change is carried out.
