HYDREX
A Set of Statistical Models for the Assessment of Extreme Hydro-Climatical Events in Endangered Regions -
The basic idea is to develop hydro-climatic future scenarios with high spatial resolution for selected regions on scales which are necessary in climate impact research, but at which it has not previously been possible to simulate them. The focus is on investigations into the occurrence of extreme events. For this purpose an existing statistical model is being further developed to produce scenarios, and coupled to a dynamic regional climate model, which in turn is coupled to a hydrological model. To ensure the good quality of results, a chain of statistical procedures are used. The methods and models are contained in a simulation environment. Thus a tool will be made available by which cost-intensive simulations can be avoided, covering scales smaller than 10 km. This makes it possible to appraise the intensity, frequency and impacts of hydro-climatic extremes such as droughts and floods, and to investigate feedbacks.
