Biosketch

Sabine Lütkemeier is now retired but keeping in contact with former summer school participants and still updating the alumni website. She was scientific co-ordinator for global change research initiatives at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. For the ALTER-Net (EU Network of Excellence: A Long-Term Biodiversity, Ecosystem and Awareness Research Network) she was the summer school director for sixsummer schools. She co-organised the highly acclaimed AVEC (Integrated Assessment of Vulnerable Ecosystems under Global Change) summer schools in 2003 and 2005 and several workshops for this EU-funded project. She chaired the German secretariat of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and propagated this research programme in the German scientific community. Her postdoctoral years she spent at New Mexico Tech, USA, funded by a NATO grant. Sabine Lütkemeier was co-editor of the synthesis book of the IGBP core project Biospheric Aspects of the Hydrological Cycle “Vegetation, Water, Humans and the Climate” and “Coupled Models for the Hydrological Cycle” published jointly by BAHC, IHP and DWC and both printed by Springer.
