Diana Reckien, working at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), focuses on urban studies, urban planning and sustainability, in particular related to the interactions of urbanity and climate change. She has worked in both, the developing and the developed countries. One of her main research interests concern the impacts of and adaptation possibilities to climate change, e.g. in the transport and the building sector. She is also engaged in research to intra-urban migration processes with respect to social, physical as well as natural urban characteristics, e.g. in old industrial, shrinking cities, and its consequences for certain parameters of (un)sustainability. She contributed to several research projects in Europe (DYNAS-COAST, URBS PANDENS and ADAM) and is now project leader in a research network (SUSTAINABLE HYDRABAD) striving for urban sustainability in a developing context looking at Hyderabad/India, where she concentrates on the integration of possible adaptation efforts resulting from climate change impacts and mitigation options.
