Eric Arets is tropical forest ecologist at Alterra, Wageningen UR. His main field of expertise originally is in modelling tree population dynamics in tropical forests to assess sustainable management options. The past years he is mainly involved in policy support research projects, focussing on effects of land-use and climate change on ecosystem services and biodiversity. During two years he was seconded to the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) where he worked on a global biodiversity model and on species distribution models in relation to climate change. Currently he works in projects on competing claims on natural resources, on sustainable commodity value chains, on climate change adaptation and mitigation projects in East Africa and Suriname and projects related to The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB).
