Abstract

ALTER-Net continues

ALTER-Net, a long-term biodiversity, ecosystem and awareness research network, was a five year project (2004-2009) funded by the European Union's Framework VI programme and continues to day while getting support directly from its 22 partner institutes. The 22 partner institutes from 17 European countries are aiming to build lasting integration of biodiversity research, monitoring and communication capacity.

An overview of what has been achieved during the first 5 years of ALTER-Net as well as our plans for the future will be presented. Challenges, pitfalls and how ALTER-Net should proceed will be discussed and together with the summer school participants different scenarios how to get to a successful network will be elaborated.
