Title of the talk: Habitat heterogeneity and consequences for insect biodiversity (pdf: 5MB)
Summary of the discussion by Veronica Mendez (pdf)
Abstract
Habitat heterogeneity and consequences for insect biodiversityIt is my intention to speak about two examples of how human activities can affect 1. insect diversity and 2. trophic interactions. First, I will concentrate on how landscape-scale heterogeneity can influence the diversity of carabid beetle guilds and then I will go on to describe how introducing cattle to birch woodlands alters plant communities to modify a host-parasitoid relationship. Finally, I will say a few words about current work that is attempting to link biodiversity changes to ecosystem processes and lead a discussion on the interdisciplinary challenge to measure ecosystem services.
