Title of the talk: Aggregating biodiversity indicators for policy purposes: Sense or nonsense? (pdf: 2MB)
Biosketch
Chris Klok is theoretical ecologist and teamleader of the group functional biodiversity at Alterra Wageningen Research Center. She graduated at the University of Amsterdam (tropical marine ecology, computer science, ecotoxicology, philosophy, and gender sciences) and defended her PhD thesis at the same university in mathematical population ecology. Her main interest is in the development and application of mathematical models (deterministic and stochastic) to assess population viability. She uses models that are firmly based on the life-history of considered species. She applied these models to assess the impact of habitat characteristics (size, quality, and configuration), and biotic interactions (competition and predation) in the fields of conservation, ecotoxicological risk assessment and pest management.
Given broad interest in ecology and its socio-economic context she recently broadened her scope to include cost-effectiveness of agri-environment schemes, CBD indicator assessment (scientific quality and usefulness for policy), awareness raising on biodiversity, and gender awareness in biodiversity management and conservation.
