Sandra Lavorel is a Senior Research Scientist at CNRS, the main French public research organization. She has been based in Grenoble since 2003, where she is coordinating research on mountain ecosystem responses to environmental change with a group of 20+ scientists and graduate students. Her research interests concern the effects of global change on biodiversity and ecosystem services in semi-natural vegetation. Her previous work has examined a diversity of ecosystems including grasslands in the Mediterranean region, Australia and the Alps, as well as processes of secondary succession after land abandonment or fire. Sandra Lavorel has been involved in the coordination of international research on global change and terrestrial ecosystems since 1997, especially within the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme. She served as a Review Editor for the biodiversity chapters of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment.
