Biosketch
Sybille van den Hove is Visiting Professor at the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Director of MEDIAN, a small company positioned at the intersection between scientific research and practical concerns of institutional and economic actors. MEDIAN provides research, teaching and consulting services on: sustainable development governance and environmental policy, science/policy interfaces, participatory decision-making, corporate social and environmental responsibility, business ethics, decision-sciences and ethical decision-making.
Sybille holds a BA in Physics from the Catholic University of Louvain, a MSc in Environmental Economics from La Sorbonne University (Paris), and a PhD in Ecological Economics from the University of Versailles. Her core expertise is in sustainable development governance, science/policy interfaces, participatory approaches to environmental decision-making, integration of natural and social science research, and corporate environmental responsibility. Her recent work has focused on biodiversity policies at international and EU levels. She has also worked on issues such as: EU and international climate change policies, radioactive waste management policies, the EU chemical and pesticides policies, sustainability strategies of corporations, and institutionalisation of corporate social responsibility.
Sybille is chairing the Steering Committee of the HERMES integrated project (Hotspot Ecosystem Research on the Margins of European Seas). She is the vice chair of the steering committee of the European Platform for Biodiversity Research Strategy (EPBRS). She is also chairing the Scientific Advisory Council of the European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy (EDIT) network of excellence.
