Biosketch
Karl Baadsvik is special adviser at the Norwegian Institute for Nature research (NINA) where he was director general from 1988 when the institute was established and until 2003. He has also been assistant professor and professor in vegetation ecology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, working in particular on climatic adaptations of mountain plants. He has been deputy director in the Norwegian Directorate for Nature Management and has been member of numerous national and international committees and councils dealing with environmental and ecological research. Baadsvik has extensive experience with international research cooperation, capacity and institution building as well as strategic research planning and implementation. Currently he is chair of the ALTER-Net Summer School Board, member of the ALTER-Net Management Board and in charge of the Network’s Scheme for Mobility and Training and Institutional Integration.
