It is the aim of this conference to bring together a wide range of
researchers and practitioners whose work is related to vulnerability and
hazard assessment. The hazard community focuses mainly on short term
developments and often tries to utilize statistical measures. The
approach used by the climate change community is long term oriented and
understands vulnerabilty as a function of an exposed unit, its
sensitivity against a climate stimulus, and adaptive capacity. The
conference is set up as a platform to stimulate a fruitful exchange
between both communities and the identification of differences and
similarities is one key point. A better integration of the concepts can
strengthen the progress towards sustainability, in particular, synergies
can be achieved in the field of institutions and implementation tools
useful for future decision making and planning.
