Doctoral thesis:
Current Research Interests:
- Systems for improved information flow and decision support in the context of climate change
- Human-Computer Interaction in the context of Earth System Analyses
- Development of appropriate graphical user interfaces for scientific data management
Current Research Projects:
- MEDIATION - Methodology for Effective Decision-making on Impacts and AdaptaTION (EU FP7)
- ci:grasp - Climate Impacts: Global & Regional Adaptation Support Platform
Former Research Projects:
- ADAM - Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies: Supporting European climate policy (EU FP6)
- PIXDAT - PIK Extensible Database and Access Tools (PIK Topik project; project leader / speaker)
Software Projects (sample):
- MEDIATION Common Platform
Design and realization (more information will be made available soon; for information on MEDIATION please visit the project website at www.mediation-project.eu/) - PIK Diagram Generator
The java-based PIK Diagram Generator is e.g. used within the ci:grasp adaptation information platform to provide climate diagrams on the fly on a global 0.5° x 0.5° grid, allowing to compare multiple GCMs, SRES scenarios, as well as present and future time horizons.
check out online at http://cigrasp.pik-potsdam.de/diagrams/compare. - ADAM Digital Compendium
The ADAM Digital Compendium has been designed to act as a portal for the dissemination of transdisciplinary results from five types of adaptation-relevant analysis carried out in FP6 project ADAM.
visit online at http://adam-digital-compendium.pik-potsdam.de - PIK Vegetation Visualizer
(additional information available soon) - Climate Change and Protected Areas
- interactive overview of how characteristic values of the regional climates could change for more than 4000 protected areas in Germany (currently available in German only)
access via PIK's infodesk - IDA - interactive digital atlas for spatial selections and result visualization
further information - xDat - interactive online access to general meta data, station meta data and according time series at PIK
visit the xDat homepage - Climate Diagram Generator - interactive visualization of temperature and precipitation time series using, e.g., Walter and Thornthwaite diagrams
