Research Interests

Jan studied economics and engineering with a special regard to energy and environmental management at the University of Flensburg and is now writing his doctoral thesis. He is particularly interested how climate mitigation affects economic development in developing countries including the question how developing countries can be integrated into international efforts to curb climate change and how to trigger low carbon development. In his work he has focused on China. Therefore he looks at past patterns of carbonization and future possibilities for decarbonization. He is also interested in policy instruments that might follow the CDM post 2012 and in the question of carbon embedded in trade.

At PIK, Jan is a member of the Policy Instruments group and contributes to the EntDekEn project.
