About Tabaré:
Tabaré Arroyo Currás (Mexico, 1983) joined PIK’s Research Domain "Sustainable Solutions” as doctoral candidate within the group of Energy System Modeling. Tabaré is an energy specialist with international experience in the industry services sector (engineering, R&D and consulting) and a strong track profile in climate strategies, policies and economics. He studied the Bachelors in Sciences (BSc) in Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Americas in Puebla (Mexico, 2001-2006) and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (Australia, 2004). In 2010, he finished his Masters in Sciences (MSc) in Sustainable Development (Energy and Resources) at the Utrecht University (the Netherlands, 2008-2010). Currently, he is doing a Doctorate in Economics of Climate Change (PhD) at the Technical University of Berlin (Germany, 2011-2014). A more detailed CV of Tabaré can be found here.
At PIK, Tabaré’s research focuses on the role of carbon leakage in a fragmented climate change regime, and under a globally dynamic energy market. In his research, he assess the consequences of economic substitution and technology spillovers, on mitigation costs estimates and the feasibility of ambitious climate protection. He is currently doing his research as part of the AMPERE Project, an EU project with 22 world-wide partners that aims at improving knowledge on climate change mitigation costs by better integrating climate and economic models and systematically comparing the components of these models. Further research interests of Tabaré are: supply system analysis of energy conversion technologies; energy efficiency in the industry and built environments; and, the evaluation and valuation of costs and benefits of energy and climate policies.
