Wibke Avenhaus
Wibke Avenhaus studied Landscape Development at University of Applied Sciences in Osnabrück and graduated with honors in 2004. From 2004 until 2007 she successfully completed a postgraduate program in Applied System Science at University of Osnabrück for which she received a scholarship by the Heinrich Böll Foundation. As part of her diploma thesis she combined a model for the prediction of remaining contaminants and nutrients in flowing waters (GREAT-ER) with a geographical information system (ArcGIS). She then worked as a research assistant on the further development of GREAT-ER at the Institute of Environmental Systems Research (USF) at University of Osnabrück.
From 2008 until 2009 she was employed as a research assistant by the Federal Statistical Office in Bonn in the department of agricultural statistic, where she conducted a feasibility study of a survey of fertilizer usage in agricultural holdings as well as a data availability analysis for agricultural environmental indicators at the EU-level.
Her research interests include the modeling of environmental ecosysystems, the exploration of conflicts between ecology, society and economics in general and – specifically – agriculture, as well as the development of sustainable solutions.
