Biosketch
Detlef van Vuuren is a researcher, part of the IMAGE Integrated Assessment Modelling team at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL, former MNP/RIVM). His focus within the team is on scenario development, assessment of climate mitigation strategies and modeling long-term trends in world energy use in relation to global environmental problems. In this field he has published over 60 papers in scientific peer-reviewed journals. In 2007, Detlef van Vuuren received a PhD at Utrecht University on trends in world energy use and climate policy.
Detlef van Vuuren has participated in several international projects in different capacities, including as Coordinating Lead Author in the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) and the World-Bank coordinated International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology Development. Detlef van Vuuren was also a Lead Author in the Fourth Assessment of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), responsible for assessment of long-term baseline and mitigation scenarios. Since 2001, he has also participated in several projects of the Energy Modeling Forum (EMF). Detlef is part of the Integrated Assessment Modelling Consortium – mainly involved in the task of developing new scenarios to be used for evaluating climate change and policy across different scientific areas.
